Max Verlander

Research Associate - EPP

Max came to sport through the study of people: how they perform under pressure, how they fit within a team, and what lets them keep performing at the highest level.

Max began his career in psychology. He earned a First Class BSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Loughborough University and a Distinction MSc in Applied Clinical Psychology from the University of Bath. He then worked as an Assistant Psychologist with University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, and was competitively selected onto doctoral-level clinical psychology training at the University of South Wales.

He joined EPP in 2026 as a Research Associate. He works across the full lifecycle of a search, from briefing meetings and market mapping through to candidate interviews and shortlist presentations. His clients and candidates hold senior roles across the Premier League, Championship, FA, SAFF, MLS, and rugby union clubs and federations.

Max also works closely with EPP's founders and partners on leadership development and executive advisory projects. This includes audits of performance teams at Premier League, rugby and county cricket clubs.

His background shapes how he approaches every search. He assesses candidates for cultural and behavioral fit as well as skills and experience, and he looks at how performance environments actually work day to day, not just how they appear on paper.
